What is the Aim of Healthwatch?

One of our main tasks is to understand the needs, experiences and concerns of people who use health and social care services, and to ensure their voices are heard and responded to. Healthwatch give people a powerful voice locally and nationally.

The Healthwatch network is made of up of local Healthwatch in each of the 152 local authority areas like here in Swindon; and Healthwatch England, the national body.

What does the Swindon Healthwatch do?

Healthwatch Swindon took on the work of Swindon Local Involvement Network (LINk) from April 2013 and does more than the LINk was able to do. It aims to represent the views of people who use services, carers and the public on the Swindon Health and Wellbeing Board; it provides a complaints advocacy service to support people who want support to make a complaint about NHS services; it reports concerns about the quality of health and social care to the organisations that can take action locally, regionally or nationally to make sure improvements are made. Here is our latest information leaflet (July 2014).

if I want to make a Complaint about a service I have received, what can Healthwatch do for me?

• Healthwatch will tell service providers about your experiences (anonymously) of care and hold them to account.

• Healthwatch will challenge organisations about poor practice and work with them to help to turn it into good practice.

• Healthwatch will represent your views at meetings with local decision makers to ensure your needs are considered.

Healthwatch would like to hear about the services you, or someone you know, receives such as doctors, dentists, hospitals, day care centres or care homes. Please complete the short form on their website to have your say about the health and social care services in Swindon.
